Counter-Productions Theatre Company has produced some terrific stuff on the proverbial shoestring: “X Minus One,” “Glengarry Glen Ross,” and now Charles Busch’s sea-side romp Psycho Beach Party.
Chicklet (Hannah Cranton) is determined not to let chauvinism stand in her way: she means to learn how to surf with the best of the boys, so she approaches the best to ask him to become her instructor.
His name is Kanaka (Ian Conway) and he’s far from interested in teaching tiny little Chicklet any such thing… until a sudden change in her demeanor brings forth Chicklet’s hidden dominatrix side, another personality that calls herself Anne Bowman. Anne gets what she wants–and Kanaka gets hot and bothered, a little bi black and blue, into the bargain. Read more…

“Gidget”, Frankie and Annette beach party epics and Hitchcock psychological suspense thrillers such as “Spellbound” and “Marnie” are given a shotgun marriage. Chicklet Forrest, a teenage tomboy, desperately wants to be part of the surf crowd on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities. Among them is a black check out girl, an elderly radio talk show hostess, a male model named Steve and the accounting firm of Edelman and Edelman. Her most dangerous alter ego is a sexually voracious vixen named Ann Bowman who has nothing less than world domination on her mind.

Counter-Productions Theatre Company would like to thank EDGE Boston for it’s acknowledgement of CPTC’s Fall 2008 performance of the sci-fi radio-play-turned-theatrical-hit, X Minus One, directed by Brian McCarthy.
EDGE Boston has declared X Minus One part of their “Best of New England Theater” releases for the 2008 season! CPTC would also like to take a moment to sincerely thank its viewing audience for being the primary factor for the three-week production reaching its creative peak. Without an attentive and energized house at the Piano Factory Theatre in South Boston there to see and participate in the experience, CPTC’s sci-fi extravaganza simply would not have been possible.
The membership of Counter-Productions Theatre Company hopes to make 2009 even more thunderous than the previous year, and as always, looks forward to seeing you out at the theatre!
